This workshop will focus on exploring the painting process with a clearer idea of what we want to say in the finished painting, using a simplified palette in the approach to colour. Participants will use oil pigments - use odorless materials if possible. Technical issues related to oils will be addressed as the painting ideas are developed. Attention will be given to greater awareness of visual relationships in painting, including line, shape, composition and design, edges, colour relationships (hue, value, intensity) light structure and passage, and texture or surface qualities. Workshop participants are encouraged to work in their own style or chosen direction (eg. representational or nonrepresentational).
