This intensive course focuses on experimentation and discovering new stylistic and material approaches in working with the human figure. It is one thing to draw or paint the human figure well (the HOW) and yet it is another thing to express something profound and meanful beyond ideas of right/wrong, beyond mere technique, into a field of originality and authentic expression. Fusing the figure with experimental media (drawing, painting, collage, photography, transfers, etc) students stumble upon magical accidents, create more compelling imagery, and begin to generate ideas and concepts that will inspire whole bodies of artwork to come. Each class is supplemented with individual and group critiques, art historical and contemporary presentations, as well as lectures and demos.
