| "Artists reach beneath the surface for hidden things." - Emily Carr
This year we are offering a number of arts teachers who are well known to us as capable instructors who will assist you to "bring your hidden things" forward, in your favorite medium, to share with the world. Once more we are fortunate to be holding the workshops in the former Gibsons Library Building, in the heart of Gibsons Landing, overlooking the sheltered harbour, Keats and Bowen Islands, and across Howe Sound to the North Shore Mountains. Our beautiful local scenery is an inspiration to student and teacher alike, and the friendly quiet of our small town atmosphere is enriching to the artistic soul. We start each week with a Sunday night reception in a private home where the students can become acquainted with the teacher and fellow painters and avoid that Monday morning strangeness. We assemble at the school for this gathering and carpool to the reception. It's possible for you to bring your materials to the schoolat this time and perhaps choose your spot for the rest of the week. |

Gibsons has many B&Bs, as well as good hotels, motels and campgrounds for those who need accommodation. We offer a basic list of inspected premises if requested. Many ethnic and regular restaurants and fast-food outlets offer either quick or leisurely dining. Partners who wish to accompany students for the holiday will find many activities to enjoy. There is tennis, hiking, boating, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding and, if golf is a preferred activity, there are four courses available offering varying degrees of difficulty. During the summer many festivals are held. The Gibsons Annual Sea Cavalcade takes place July 25-27; the Annual Fibre Arts Festival Aug. 20-23; and the Outrigger Canoe Races, with international participants July 12-13 - all in Gibsons. In addition Sechelt hosts the nationally renowned Festival of Written Arts Aug. 14-17. Gibsons generally has a more moderate climate than other coastal communities, and there are few, if any, biting insects to annoy the "en plein air" painter. Our enthusiastic group of volunteers works hard all year to provide the best workshops possible to help you bring your hidden messages forward for everyone to enjoy. |
