| "Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting." - Hippocrates
The Gibsons School of the Arts again presents a stellar list of art instructors for the summer of 2009 to provide you with an opportunity to enhance your artistic skills in the medium and style of your choice. We are pleased to again be presenting the summer workshops in the former Gibsons Library Building with its views over the sheltered harbour to Keats and Bowen Islands, and across Howe Sound to the North Shore Mountains. The artistic ambience of our small town atmosphere is aspiring for both student and instructor. Each week begins with a Sunday night reception in a private home where the class participants can become acquainted with the instructor and one another in a social setting to avoid that Monday morning strangeness. We meet at the school for this event and carpool to the reception. It's possible to bring your materials to the school at this time and choose your table for the rest of the week. |

Gibsons is blessed with many great B&Bs, as well as good hotels, motels and campgrounds for those who need accommodation. We offer a basic list of inspected premises if requested. Many ethnic and regular restaurants and fast-food outlets offer either quick or leisurely dining. Partners who wish to accompany students to enjoy a holiday will find many activities to entertain them. There is tennis, hiking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, and four golf courses on the Coast with varying degrees of difficulty. There are many festivals held in the area during the summer months. Gibsons presents the Annual Sea Cavalcade (July 25-27); the increasingly popular Fibre Arts Festival (Aug. 20-23); and the Outrigger Canoe Races with international participants (July 11-13). In addition, Sechelt hosts the nationally renowned Festival of the Written Arts (Aug. 14-17). The climate in the Sunshine Coast is generally more moderate than elsewhere on the coast of BC. We also boast that we have very few biting insects to bother "en plein air" painters. The Gibsons School of the Arts committee is made up of a group of devoted volunteers, who strive to bring you the best instructors possible to provide you with the most inspiring opportunities to improve your creation of artistic work. |
